Goulash



INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 kg beef pieces
  • 250 gr smoked bacon pieces
  • 4 onions (sliced)
  • 4 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 3 red paprikas (capsicum - chopped)
  • 4 tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 (small) tin tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp paprika powder (if possible 1 mild and 1 hot)
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 2 springs thyme
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tbsp worchester sauce
  • 250 ml red wine
  • 250 ml beef stock 

METHOD:
  1. Fry the beef in a pan with some butter. Remove and keep aside 
  2. Fry the bacon pieces
  3. Add the onions and garlic
  4. Add the paprika powder 
  5. Add the fried beef back into the pan 
  6. Add the cumin, thyme, bay leaves and worchester sauce 
  7. Add the wine 
  8. Add the tomatoes and paprikas (capsicums) 
  9. Add tomato paste and beef stock
  10. Add some water
  11. Bring to the boil
  12. Lower the fire and let it simmer for minimum 2 hrs.
