Kerala (tomato) Thakkali curry

 

Ingredients

  • Tomato-3 nos
  • Onion-2 medium
  • Green chilli-3 nos
  • Dry red chilli- 3 or 4 nos
  • Garlic – 5 or 6 cloves
  • Curry leaves – 2 sprig
  • Coriander leaves-small amount
  • Toor dal (or yellow split peas) -1 tsp
  • Urud dal (or black lentil)-1 tsp
  • Cumin seed-1 tsp
  • Mustard seed – 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder- 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-1/2 tbsp
  • Oil- 2 or 3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water for cooking

Method

  1.  Heat coconut oil in a pan add mustard seed ,let splutter
  2.  Again we add toor dal and urud dal in to the pan.
  3.  Then we add dry red chilli and cumin seed saute well
  4.  Now we add crushed garlic, onion and green chilli, saute for few minutes .
  5.  Add salt and curry leaves mix well .
  6.  Again we add chopped tomato pieces, mix well cover and cook till the tomatoes are mashed.
  7.  Then we add curry powders like red chilli powder and turmeric powder combine well.
  8.  Now we add little amount of water and cook for 5 to 10 minutes.
  9.  Finally we add cleaned and chopped coriander leaves mix well .
  10.  Turn off the flame and serve
